Established in 1993 under the leadership of Professor Jonaid Shafiq, the University Pain Management Centre at Bangladesh Medical University has dedicated itself to alleviating pain and enhancing the quality of life for our patients. What began as an outpatient service sharing facilities with our Neurology department has grown into a world-class center, offering comprehensive care in a supportive and compassionate environment.
In 2005, we expanded our services to include a specialized two-bed inpatient facility, further enhancing our ability to care for those with complex pain conditions. Each year, our skilled Pain Physicians work tirelessly to help thousands of patients regain their independence and comfort, restoring their quality of life.
Advanced Fellowship in Pain Medicine introduced in this centre in the year 2022 under the leadership of Professor AKM Akhtaruzzaman.
The Division of Pain Medicine & Regional Anesthesia at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) has been officially recognized as an ESRA Approved Training Centre for 2026-2031. This designation highlights BMU as a premier center for anesthesia education in Asia.
It is the only institution in South Asia to hold this distinction for excellence in regional anaesthesia and pain therapy. The centre has been established as a hub for advanced training in the region, including hosting ESRA DPM part II examinations in Dhaka since 2022.

KOSAKA Pain Clinic: Specializing in advanced pain management techniques.
Super Specialized Hospital OPD Service: For tailored treatment plans and interventional pain medicine.
Multidisciplinary Team: Our in-house team includes Pain Physicians, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, and Pain Nurses. We also consult with Orthopaedic, Neurosurgery, and Neurology specialists as needed, ensuring comprehensive care.
Inpatient Treatment: We provide specialized inpatient care for complex pain management at our University CABIN facility, welcoming referrals and admitted patients.
