FROM DESK OF ALUMNI ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT

‘Alumni’ is a plural connotation with a Latin root and has gender neutrality. It is an association of graduates or, preferably, of former students. Historically, the idea of Alumni Association evolved for needs for various individuals who have had a common institutional platform at some stage of their lives to not only building a bridge between  student life and career life but also to get others  all together through the bridge and pursue a series of  useful objectives. In doing so the freshers are given the active role to face the existing challenges of competitive professional world. Both fresher’s and older are collated to work hand in hand to help each other for achieving the goal. The idea took shape and formation of Alumni Association turned into reality.
It is a pleasure to see alumni associations are continuously being formed around us and in BSMMU it has received the blessings from the authority. There has to be an honest reason for this benedictions. Firstly and most importantly it’s only natural to help building bridge between past and  present as  recalling the  old days always paves the way to better evaluation of present in terms of growth that is achieved. Secondly it helps individual to recognize the positive contributions made by all others in different points of time. Both of these two should enhance the prestige of the university.
In an agglomeration of alumni from diverse background and current position the helping hand from the university authority should be gracefully utilized to help promoting the very essence of such association and with an aim to enrich contacts between  ‘now’ and “then”.  Indeed Department of Anaesthesia, Analgesia and Intensive Care Medicine has a long past when only a few took up the discipline as a career at the beginning and at present thankfully scenario is changed where an enviable number of alumni are there to carry the torch for a bright future. For the students, ex-students, ex-faculty and faculty of current position are in a bond to accomplish objectives that would be laid down by the association..
This association will be expected to organize academic and social events, publish newsletters or magazines, and raise funds for the organization. Many of the members are in a position to provide a variety of benefits and services that help alumni maintain connections to their educational institution and fellow graduates. Additionally, such groups often support new alumni, and provide a forum to form new friendships and professional relationships with people of similar background.
It will be wishful thinking that this Alumni Association will make efforts to get themselves organized into chapters by city, region, or country. Perhaps that may happen sooner than we hope to see.
